Day 01, Drive from Phuntsholing to Thimphu.

Distance 173km

Driving time 6 hours

Altitude of Thimphu 2200 meters

Altitude of Phuntsholing 300 meters

After completion of the immigration formalities drive to Thimphu. Today is a long ride climbing from 300 meters to over 2000 meters. Most part of the road is wide and nice and you will have a comfortable ride in our comfortable vehicle. If you want you can stop in some places to take pictures or stretch your limbs.

The journey might have tired you so we suggest you to refresh and take rest or walk around the market place in Thimphu. Overnight in a hotel in Thimphu.

Day 02. Sightseeing in Thimphu

After breakfast you will go on a sightseeing tour of the Thimphu valley. There are so many things to do and see in Thimphu. We will take you to some of the common sightseeing places in Thimphu.

 Memorial chorten : This stupa/monument was built in memory of the third king of Bhutan. People throng this place the whole day. Old and young circumambulate the chorten to cleanse their sin and get good merit. This is a good place to actually interact with old and young Bhutanese and take pictures.

Buddha Dodernma : This is the tallest statue of sitting Buddha in the world. Built on a spectacular location with equally amazing view of the surround valley this place is just beautiful.

Changangkha monastery:

Takin preserve. This is a mini zoo which has few takins and deer. Takin is the national animal of Bhutan.

After lunch you will visit the following places:

School of traditional arts and craft (painting school). This is a school where children learn traditional arts and craft.

Farmer’s market, closed on Tuesdays and best from Thursday to Sunday as the market is filled with people.

Traditional paper factory: traditional paper is handmade here.

Weaving centre: you will get to see women weave traditional dress. You will see variety of Bhutanese textile in display here.

Tashichhodzong fort: This houses the office of the king and is the summer home of the monastic body of Bhutan. This is open only after office hours on week days and open from morning till evening on the weekends.

Day 03. Drive from Thimphu to Punakha

Distance 72 km

Driving time 3 hours

Altitude of Punakha 1300 meters

After your breakfast you will drive to Punakha over the Dochula pass at an altitude of 3050 meters. You will stop in Dochula for sometime. Dochula is a beautiful place with beautiful 108 chorten built by the queen mother.

Once in Punakha you will check in to your hotel. After refreshment you will drive further north to the most beautiful fortress in Bhutan. Punakha dzong is one of the most beautiful forts in Bhutan.

Later in the day you can walk around the nearby village or visit the Devine Mad monk monastery, Chimmy lhakhang. This is a very unique monastery where you get blessed with a wooden phallus. This monastery is even called as the fertility temple. Bhutanese without children come to this temple to fertility.

Hotel : Punakha/Wangdue

Day 04: Punakha to Phobjikha day excursion (4 hours)

Distance : 64 km

Altitude : 2900 meters

Today you will visit the valley of Phobjikha. Phobjikha is a beautiful valley and is the winter roosting ground of the black necked crane. You will visit the Gangtey Gyemba and the crane centre. After short walk around the valley return to Punakha.

Hotel : Punakha/Wangdue

Day 05: Drive from Punakha to Paro (4 ½ hours drive)

Distance: 120km

Altitude: 2200 meters

After breakfast drive to Paro. You will have lunch in Thimphu and proceed to Paro. In Paro visit the national museum and the Paro fort. Rest of the evening at your leisure.

Day 06: Hike to the Tiger’s nest , Taktsang gyemba

Tigers nest hike is a good half day hike to the Taktsang gyemba. You will start early as it gets hot during the day. You will carry packed lunch or return to the cafeteria to eat lunch.

Rest of the day at your leisure. You can browse through the shops in Paro town to buy some souvenir.

Stay in a hotel in Paro.

Day 07. Morning drive to Phuntsholing
